I've seen in several pages as many people do not know how to update your Ubuntu OpenOffice 2.4 to the new version 3.0. Here is an explanation of how:
- Debs Package Download link: OpenOffice 3 Debs
- Unzip the package by double clicking on it.
- Open a terminal and we are situated inside the folder you just unzip it, with "cd nombre_de_la_carpeta"
- From the terminal type the following to uninstall the current version of OpenOffice that we have installed: sudo apt-get remove openoffice *.*
- Now type: sudo dpkg-i *. deb
- And finally: cd desktop-integration sudo dpkg-i and-debian-menus_3.0 openoffice.org3.0-9354_all.deb (or package you that you have downloaded)

Well George, to create this post, is not intended for experts, much less, but thinking that the user running a Linux distribution (in this case ubuntu) has a minimum very minimal knowledge of the system, and the terminal is within this minimum. Also thanks for your advice and we will consider for future tutorials.

November 25th, 2008 at 9:22 pm
Thank you very much for your help. I was able to install it, although I have had a serious problem because my computer does not have Intel but AMD64. So, when you install the deb packages gave me error. I returned to download the 3rd version of OpenOffice, but this time the 64 DEB version for Linux, which is downloaded from http://openoffice.bouncer.osuosl.org/?product=OpenOffice.org&os=linuxx86-64deb&lang=es&version = 3.0.0 . The rest as indicated, except that you have to switch to the DEBS folder before the command sudo dpkg-i *. deb

Many thanks.
Two questions:
1. In step 5 a few times I get the error:
Could not find java runtime environment
but then I keep working. Should I do something about it?
2. Once finished? Can eliminr the folder where you made the
decompression of files?
Agus
December 12th, 2008 at 2:21 pm
1. Possibly some java error, try to make a sud-apt get install java.
2. If clear, the installation files are only for that reason. You can remove perfectly.
December 14th, 2008 at 6:40 pm
Jesus,
? And after sudo apt-get install java
I repeat the installation of openoffice?
Agus
December 14th, 2008 at 7:04 pm
That's odd: In another machine, also with ubuntu 8.04, after
of
sudo dpkg-i *. deb
I said:
dpkg: need an action option
I'm in the same directory, with all *. deb
Why not work here?
Agus

Hello!
It download the file, unzipped it and when I go to the console and give the command sudo dpkg-i *. deb says, error processing, file not found.
Not to do ...
February 8th, 2009 at 10:40 pm
You have entered the folder you unzipped (step 3)?
If you need try to do a sudo apt-get install dpkg.

Hello, As if! just asking for aid is to try to change the openoffice version 3.0 and 2.4 at the time of follow simple instructions
February 14th, 2009 at 2:05 a.m.
Sorry press enter without noticing, back to the subject, it can not find the file or files, I decided to open a folder to openoffice3 and leave it on the desktop, but then how do you do? someone could explain, I have no OpenOffice 2.4
February 14th, 2009 at 3:28 pm
If not found, it's probably because in the end, you're not in the folder where you downloaded. Try to explain better what steps do and where you download.
February 14th, 2009 at 8:14 pm
Try to install it using the Package Manager Sinaptic and marked as installed, but not in Applications-Office. On the other side to give the instruction ~ / escritorio/OOO300_m9_native_packed-1_es.9358 just tells me that file or file not found. Also I have another package on the desktop (openoffice.org3.0.tar-1.tar.gz) and the latter is to try to install using the Package Manager Sinaptic
February 15th, 2009 at 24:42
Man for trying to follow the steps as they have done in the post. After downloading the package. Tar.gz, which corresponds to the first step, is to have detailed explanations.
February 16th, 2009 at 11:33 pm
Hey, me too I get what they said in a comment:
dpkg: need an action option
Type dpkg-help for help about installing and uninstalling packages [*];
Use `dselect 'or` aptitude' for a more user-friendly package;
Type dpkg-Dhelp for a list of dpkg debug values;
Type dpkg-force-help for a list of forcing options;
Type dpkg-deb-help for help about manipulating files. Deb;
Type dpkg-license for the license (GNU GPL), copyright and
absence of guarantees [*].
And this "dpkg" and I have it updated. Is there a missing step?
Greetings

EXCELLENT TUTORIAL, BUT OLD EXCELLENT
Those who have problems installing pay attention to detail:
In Section 5 is: sudo dpkg-i *. deb and should read: sudo dpkg-i *. deb detail is the sign (-) before i. The error appears to them is by doing copy and paste
Before you run sudo dpkg-i *. deb, should enter the DEBS directory and run the command from there.
NOW WITH ERRATA ready to proceed (for those who like the copy and paste)
1. Debs Package Download link: OpenOffice 3 Debs
2. Unzip the package by double clicking on it.
3. Open a terminal (applications -> accessories -> terminal) and we are situated inside the folder you just unzip it, with "cd nombre_de_la_carpeta (basic commands: ls directory listing is like dir in DOS, cd folder name in the directory we move . For convenience download and unzip on the desktop, so it will be easier to find)
4. From the terminal type the following to uninstall the current version of OpenOffice that we have installed: sudo apt-get remove openoffice *.* (that do so before entering the directory, with this order uninstalled all the openoffice that was installed)
5. Now type: sudo dpkg-i *. deb (corrected the sign, then copy and paste with confidence)
6. And finally: cd desktop-integration sudo dpkg-i and-debian-menus_3.0 openoffice.org3.0-9354_all.deb (or package you that you have downloaded)
should have no problem now,
